Graffiti for the End of Violence Against Women

The Graffiti for the End of Domestic Violence project is an educational and communication campaign, carried out both online and in person, aiming to spread information on the types of violence committed against women, to promote the Maria da Penha Law and its tools for protection. The project was started in 2008 under the name Graffiti Artists for the Maria da Penha Law, and it continues to this day.

In the projects’ workshops, graffiti is used as a communication tool to talk about topics which are often viewed as uninteresting, either because many women think violence will not affect them, or because they are ashamed of having already been victims. Following the discussion, all the participants are invited to use the graffiti spray cans and brushes to make a collective mural about the themes addressed, thus creating a symbol for fighting violence that will continue to multiply its message for as long as it remains exposed, in addition to the images that will be posted on social media, which will also serve as message multipliers. Thanks to the completely free workshops, women and young students from the visited areas become multiplying agents in the fight against violence against women in their own communities, among family members and friends.
