Mentoring Group
The Contemporary Art Mentoring Group was created in 2017, and is a project focused on fostering the potential of contemporary artworks made by racialized women. During two months of weekly meetings accompanied by a curator, the group’s aim is to encourage critical reflection about artworks, and to mentor the participating artists in the elaboration of an art project. At the end of the programme, the participating artists present their works, which are supported and financed by NAMI, in a group exhibition.
The Mentoring Group has already led to two group exhibitions: ‘Político/Pessoal’ (‘Political/Personal’) in 2018, at the Rio Scenarium Gallery, curated by Panmela Castro and Ademar Britto; and ‘Sob a Potência da Presença’ (‘On the Power of Presence’) in 2019, at Museu da República, curated by Keyna Eleison. The exhibition opening was attended by Rosana Paulino, the group’s godmother.
